| Kongo was completed on August 16, 1913. It was the last capital ship commissioned by the British for the Imperial Japanese Empire, and the only foreign-made battleship used in the Pacific War.

On November 21, 1944, she not only served as a high-speed battleship for aircraft carrier defense, but also served as the flagship of the Combined Fleet twice. While returning from the Battle of Samar Gulf in the Taiwan Strait at 3:06 a.m., she was torpedoed by the U.S. Navy submarine Sea Lion, and two of her six torpedoes hit Kongo's port side, and at 5:30 a.m. she sank north of Keelung.
